Even as his business grew, Bob devoted his spare time to building better mouthpieces and ligatures. The Luyben plastic ligature was the clarinetist's first real alternative to traditional metal ligatures. Bob was joined in the business by his wife Annette who managed the finances, and eventually by their daughter Annette, who currently operates the business. Also important to the functioning of the business is Music Buyer, Don Shoberg, who has been with the Luybens for 50 years. Most clarinet orders are handled by Keith Wilcox. The instrument and accessory department is handled by Rich Coble. All of the employees at Luyben Music are musicians, with different areas of expertise.
